About

Innate Wisdom and Wellness is a legal, micro-healing center for psilocybin assisted therapy in Durango, Colorado. With the recent legalization of psilocybin therapy in Colorado, we are honored to be the first healing center to offer this breakthrough therapy in the Four Corners region. We provide intentional support and compassionate guidance from experienced, licensed facilitators throughout your psychedelic journey. From preparation and safe administration of psilocybin, to the integration of your experience afterward, we walk alongside you every step of the way.

The efficacy and immense benefits of psilocybin assisted therapy is backed by a multitude of research and clinical trials. Psilocybin allows us to open a doorway in our minds, where we have the ability to rewire our mental pathways and rewrite our internal narrative. During administration of psilocybin we experience an increase in neuroplasticity, which combined with our own innate wisdom and desire for wellness, allows us to make immense internal shifts towards wholeness.

In order for psychedelic experiences to reach their utmost emotional, spiritual, and psychological benefit, it is essential to have the experienced and ethical guidance of a licensed facilitator. This supportive structure allows you to prepare sufficiently and feel safe during your journey, so that you can focus on deep inner healing. Integration with a trained therapist is vital for maintaining momentum towards change after a profound psychedelic experience.

We all carry innate wisdom and wellness.

Psilocybin opens a doorway, allowing access to our own healing.

The Process

1. Screening and Consultation

  • The first step in assessing your readiness and fit for how Innate Wisdom and Wellness offers this service is to complete the interest form. We will then reach out to you to schedule a therapist consultation and find out more about your reasons for seeking psilocybin therapy.

You will then undergo a screening process to ensure you are a good fit for psilocybin therapy, which could last from 1 to 3 sessions, depending on your individual needs.

  • Consultation sessions are $200 per 60 minute session. We can offer a super bill for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider, as these are considered outpatient behavioral health sessions, often covered by insurance.

2. Preparation Sessions

  • We require a minimum of three preparation sessions prior to an initial administration session. Some clients may need to spend a year or more preparing for their psilocybin journey. This largely depends on the amount of inner work you have already done and previous experience with altered states.

During preparation will review all necessary paperwork and then focus on building trust and rapport during sessions, as well as establishing safe boundaries for administration.

Common themes in psychedelic preparation include exploring intentions and expectations, reducing outcome-oriented thinking, establishing an open and curious mindset to optimize therapeutic potential, orienting to the session environment, choosing effective grounding strategies to use as needed during your journey, discussion of safety and consent, education around plant medicines and the typical arc of psychedelic experiences, addressing any specific fears or concerns, how to move through possibly challenging moments during the psychedelic experience, use of guided imagery the week prior to administration to practice incorporating your fear and welcoming it, and how to create and honor ceremony.

Your final preparation session will be held in the administration session space.

  • Preparation sessions are $200 per 60 minute session. We can offer a super bill for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider, as these are considered outpatient behavioral health sessions, often covered by insurance.

3. Administration and Ceremony

  • The administration session will be held in a comfortable, private, and calm environment. The setting is designed to minimize distractions and create a sense of safety, with soft lighting, calming music, and comforting furnishings. This space is in an office suite, with tall windows to allow light and nature to enter into the space.

We will discuss your prepared intentions and there will be an offering to bring a talisman to keep near you in case grounding is needed during the session. If ceremony is desired, there will be an altar available to place your talisman on. You will be given a measured dose of psilocybin, with a choice of tea with honey or whole mushrooms with chocolate. The dose is tailored to the participant’s needs and experience level.

Your facilitator will remain present throughout the session to provide emotional support and guidance. Your facilitator may sit quietly or offer verbal reassurance (or physical depending on agreed upon physical boundaries) if necessary, but will generally allow you to process the experience on your own.

After ingesting the psilocybin, it typically begins to take effect within 20 to 40 minutes. You will lay on the provided mat with a mindfold over your eyes, and comfortable pillows and blankets will be available as needed.

The experience can involve deep emotional exploration, visual or sensory alterations, and changes in perception of self and reality. This experience can range from introspective and therapeutic to challenging. Your facilitator will be there to offer grounding techniques and emotional support if you experience anxiety or difficult emotions.

During the peak of the experience (which may last 3-6 hours), you might engage in inner exploration, gaining new perspectives, processing trauma, or working through personal insights. Your facilitator may offer guidance or help you reflect on insights that arise, but generally will respect the autonomy of the experience.

As the effects of psilocybin wear off, you will be gently helped to return to a grounded state. This is often facilitated by relaxing music, soothing words, or simple breathing exercises. When you arise, you will be offered food and water to help your body feel nourished after your journey.

  • We offer a sliding scale for clients ranging from $1400-2400 for one administration session and one integration session. We also offer a recommended package, including three preparation sessions, one administration session and three integration sessions for $3000.

4. Integration Sessions

  • Integration sessions are incredibly important for maintaining momentum towards change after having profound experiences during administration. It is recommended that you have a minimum of 2-3 integration sessions, although more would be beneficial.

Integration is often a forgotten step within psilocybin assisted therapy, but it is essential for achieving long term positive outcomes.

Common themes in psychedelic integration include deepening sense of Self, translation of spiritual/mystical messaging into daily practices, organization around previously chaotic traumatic memories, shifting out of painful perspectives through meaning making, embodiment and ongoing somatic integration, how to maintain momentum on your path towards real change, and utilization of breath work, meditation, journaling, and other personal rituals to connect back to the wisdom of your journey.

  • Additional integration sessions are $200 per 60 minute session. We can offer a super bill for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider, as these are considered outpatient behavioral health sessions, often covered by insurance. You can choose to have integration sessions with your own therapist if they offer this service.

Frequently asked questions

  • We can bill regional BCBS and SelectHealth plans directly for preparation and integration sessions. For other insurance providers we can offer a super bill for possible reimbursement. Administration sessions are not covered by any insurance providers at this time.

  • For preparation, administration and integration sessions, the total cost generally ranges from $1400–$3600, depending on number of integration sessions, sliding scale and insurance coverage.

  • Some individuals may experience nausea after ingesting psilocybin, however, having honey and/or chocolate helps the gut digest the medicine, minimizing negative side effects. Psilocybin can increase your heart rate after ingestion, but not to a dangerous level.

The day after administration individuals often feel more tired and are more emotionally sensitive to their environments. It is important to plan for taking care of yourself the day after administration.

  • During Administration, Psilocybin binds to the 5-HT2A receptor, a subtype of serotonin receptor. The 5-HT2A receptor is densely located in regions such as the prefrontal cortex, which plays a key role in decision-making and higher cognitive functions. By modulating this receptor, psychedelics can increase neuroplasticity, enhancing the brain’s ability to form new neural connections and potentially promoting emotional processing and therapeutic breakthroughs.

The Default Mode Network is a network of brain regions that are active when the mind is at rest, often linked to self-referential thoughts, the “ego,” and rumination. In psychedelic states, the DMN activity decreases, leading to reduced ego boundaries and a sense of interconnectedness. This dissociation from the self can facilitate psychological insights and help reduce rigid thinking patterns associated with conditions like depression, anxiety and PTSD. The decreased DMN activity is thought to be a key mechanism by which psychedelics can induce ego dissolution and promote transformative experiences.

During a psychedelic experience, there is a reorganization of brain networks, with increased connectivity between brain regions that don’t typically communicate with each other. This phenomenon is thought to be enabled by the 5-HT2A receptor activation and is associated with a more flexible, integrated brain state. Regions such as the prefrontal cortex (responsible for executive function) and the posterior cingulate cortex (linked to the DMN) show increased connectivity, allowing for a more holistic and unified experience of consciousness. This altered connectivity might help individuals gain new perspectives, challenge maladaptive cognitive patterns, and support the therapeutic process by fostering a sense of mental clarity and emotional release.

Overall, psychedelic therapy may lead to enhanced emotional processing, reduced psychological distress, and the restructuring of maladaptive neural pathways, which can contribute to long-lasting therapeutic benefits.

  • During preparation sessions we will discuss all safety protocols and you will receive copies of all forms that you sign regarding policies and protocols. This will include the use of supportive touch, such as a hand on the shoulder or holding of a hand. During preparation we will discuss your comfort level with supportive touch and what feels safe for you. We will plan for non-verbal cues to use as needed if supportive touch is wanted.

The office will be locked during administration, to ensure privacy and safety throughout your session. You will have access to a bathroom within the office building to use as needed throughout your session.

You will need to arrange a pick up after administration, as you will not be allowed to drive or leave the building on your own after administration.

  • While a single psilocybin session can lead to meaningful relief of symptoms, many people find that psychedelic experiences are most valuable as part of an ongoing process of inner exploration and healing.

Psilocybin itself is not a standalone cure for depression. Research indicates it is most effective when paired with consistent psychotherapy and supportive integration. The experience may open a window for new habits and perspectives to take root, but lasting change depends on the individual’s active engagement in their own healing journey.

  • At Innate Wisdom and Wellness, our therapists can only offer services in the states where they are licensed. For us, that means all therapeutic sessions need to take place here in Colorado or online from Idaho.

If you feel called to this form of healing, traveling to Colorado offers the chance to receive your screening, preparation, administration and integration in a safe and supportive setting. While we aren’t able to provide these services virtually across state lines at this time, we’re deeply committed to creating meaningful in-person experiences.

In the future, we plan to offer nature based, retreat-style opportunities designed for out-of-state guests. For now, we are honored to serve those who live in Colorado or are able to journey here to connect with us.
